Glory on display

When I don’t meet expectations – theirs or mine. when I feel like I’m not doing enough, but I’m becoming overwhelmed with all that I’m doing. when I feel as if I’m stepping into a foggy unknown. when I’m tired and confused and clueless what to do next …

when I feel like I’m not enough, it’s a relief to be reminded that that’s ok. this isn’t about me anyway.

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”  [emphasis mine] 1Tim 1:15-17, ESV

Through my all my weaknesses, mistakes and failures Christ and His glory can be displayed. Lift your eyes up from your problems to “the only God,” the “King of ages,” the Glorious One.

  1. This reminds me of a passage in 2 Corinthians where Paul says, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong “(12:9-10). I read this a little while ago and it was such an encouragement to me. I realized I don’t have to be perfect–in fact I can’t be. Only in Christ can I amount to anything. He doesn’t want me to be a good person. He wants me to love Him, trust Him, and pursue Him. I need to stop trying to do everything myself and become dependent on Jesus. He alone has the strength and the power. It’s simply a matter of surrendering all things into His care.
