here in the middle

Because for those who follow Jesus {strange as it seems} unexplainable joy and gut-turning pain often come from the same place: letting God intervene and interfere with your life … again and again and again.

“’Now is my [Jesus’] soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.’ Then a voice came from heaven: ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.’” John 12:27-28, ESV

” … looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2, ESV

“Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 10 He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.” 2 Corinthians 1:9-10, ESV

“The crowd joined in attacking [Paul and Silas], and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23 And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely. 24 Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them …” Acts 16:22-25, ESV {and why not marvel at the whole beautiful, unlikely story}

And let’s just whisper it in their ears right now and let it soak into our own souls too: we can see God’s face even when we can’t find His hands, if we seek it. because God’s character is unchanging and sure even when life’s pieces don’t seem to fit. and He said He is doing a good work here.

When we choose to wonder and worship Him right in the uneasiness and the hurt … that’s when we find the Wellspring of joy in the middle of it all.
